The countdown has officially begun to the start of the Australian Garden Show Sydney – the new international event tipped to become the most prestigious gardening event in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Australian Garden Show Sydney, which was secured by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, will take place in Sydney’s Centennial Park from 5-8 September and is expected to draw crowds of garden enthusiasts and professional horticulturists from around the world.

This unique show will welcome spring with spectacular displays from some of the biggest names in the horticultural and design business including Chelsea Flower Show gold medallists Tom Harfleet and Jim Fogarty, three-times UK Designer of the Year and event ambassador Andrew Fisher-Tomlin, French vertical garden expert Patrick Blanc and a host of other horticultural, landscaping and design personalities.

“There’s just one month until the opening of this world class event, which is already rumoured to offer a similar level of experience to that of the renowned Chelsea Garden Show held in London each May. To have an event of this calibre so close to home is great news for New Zealand’s garden enthusiasts – and another great reason to visit Sydney,” says Destination NSW CEO Sandra Chipchase.

“The show also provides the perfect opportunity to explore regional New South Wales and to uncover the State’s many garden trails and festivals which run each year between March and November in locations including the Hunter Valley, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and South Coast,” she adds.

The Australian Garden Show celebrates Sydney as the creative hub of Australia and the Asia Pacific region and will feature the best of Australian garden design and living architectural talent with creative installations, floral artistry, horticulture, lighting artistry and landscape design on display.

There will also be a potting tent for children and a high tea marquee which will transform after dark into a floral cocktail bar setting.

As a city, Sydney is focussing on integrating sustainable landscaping, practices and plans for its many green spaces in and around the city. Many of these will be shared in the ‘seeds of wisdom’ lecture series, designed to provide an entertaining and educational experience for visitors. Topics will range from vertical gardens, spring flowers and the gourmet farmer to discussions on aesthetic and landscape gardening.

The Australian Garden Show Sydney will also bring to life New South Wales’ ‘paddock to plate’ philosophy creating authentic food and wine experiences with My Edible Balcony author Indira Naidoo. Guru Phil Dudman, co-presenter of garden2kitchen, is establishing an on-site kitchen garden, with the produce then being transformed into delicious meals for attendees at the Harvest Kitchen.
