After three successful months in operation, Queenstown’s award-winning Gibbston Valley Winery is relocating its Arrowtown Tasting Room to larger premises right next door.
The new Tasting Room is expanding its offering to encompass all elements of ‘good living’ – from award winning Gibbston Valley wines to Mediterranean and artisan-style food and products from New Zealand and in particular Central Otago.
Widely recognised as one of the region’s best wineries, the company branched out from its Gibbston Valley home in December 2012 to open a boutique wine tasting room in Arrowtown’s high street, catering for visitors who flock to the historic township.
Gibbston Valley Winery CEO Greg Hunt said he was “delighted” with the success of The Tasting Room and the expansion opportunity which would enable them to increase the offering to locals and visitors.
“The current store has been a great attraction, enabling us to ‘whet the appetite’ of visitors for what we offer at the winery, to encourage them to spend more time in the area and visit the winery itself,” said Mr Hunt.
“There’s nothing quite like what we’re proposing available for the increasing number of people who call Arrowtown ‘home’, and it will serve the dual purpose of helping to educate visitors about our region’s award-winning wine and the skills of our winemakers, as well as providing a unique food and wine experience for locals.”
The new tasting room will offer local produce including fresh meats, cheeses and other deli items such as fresh pasta made daily, and ingredients designed to help ‘home foodies’ prepare dishes similar to those on offer at the winery.
Much-loved heritage features in the new premises, including beautiful original stone walls and fireplaces that will ‘warm’ the space and add to the ambience of the interior, are being retained in the fitout.
Walls will be painted in heritage colours and exterior colours and signage will be in keeping with Arrowtown’s heritage.
“We want to help raise Arrowtown’s profile as a culinary and wine destination and bring even more visitors to the township than it currently enjoys,” said Mr Hunt.
“We’re looking forward to showcasing the wider community as a genuine local culinary experience.”
