It’s not often that one associates the term “blue” with Waiheke, apart from the sparkling waters that surround the island, that is. However, once a year, Waiheke turns blue … well, technically speaking, it sounds blue.

Last year’s Waiheke Winter Blues festival saw twelve New Zealand blues bands turning up the heat for a weekend of bluesy heaven. The 2010 sees some old faces returning, as well as a delightful mix of new ones. With a range of blues styles on offer, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste.

The line up for 2010 includes Hammond Gamble, Mahia Blackmore, The Katy Soljak Band, The Gary Harvey Band, Kippa, Shayne Hurricane Wills, Mojo Risers, Tony Painting & the Power Band and B Squared. Additionally, for one night only, theorganisers are bringing back the original cast of Lady Sings The Blues which toured New Zealand in the 1980’s to rave reviews androaring success.

Tickets for this special event will be limited so early bookings are your best bet.

Don’t miss out …tickets will be available at a variety of outlets both on Waiheke and in Auckland. This is one weekend you’ll definitely want to be feeling blue! W: whatsonwaiheke.co.nz

Prices $30 per person for all venues and all weekend in advance; or $40 per person if purchased on the day.

A special Saturday performance of Lady Sings The Blues, with the original 1980’s cast, will go on sale separately – discounts apply to those purchasing festival and Lady Sings The Blues tickets.

Kids – Under 18’s go free, if accompanied by an adult.
