Iririki

By Gary Dickson

The song rolls around and around in my head. The distinctive sounds of Peter Frampton’s voice and music repeating themselves each time I think of Iririki Island Resort & Spa in Vanuatu. Don’t ask me why or where the association comes from, just bear with me.

Let me describe this resort and, at the end, I’ll post a few lines of Frampton’s song, and I’m sure you’ll agree – there’s a match.

Iririki Island sits just off the coast of Efate with the hub of Port Vila, the nation’s capital, just a few seconds away by boat or short ferry ride. Efate is the main island and it boasts one of the Pacific’s most beautiful deep water harbours. Iririki Island Resort & Spa occupies pride of place in this harbour and is a haven for privacy and understated elegance.

More of an islet than an island, a comfortable half hour walk will lead you through some 69 acres of lush tropical bush. The resort has been cleverly designed into sections and, with over 130 guest rooms, there is something for everybody here.

Snorkellers Cove offers apartment style accommodation. They are fully self-contained and contemporary in styling, adding a touch of luxury to your island getaway. The Penthouse suites are very spacious and cater for both couples and families. Split over three levels, they offer commanding views of the surrounding waters through floor to ceiling glass windows and private balconies.

There are spa tubs on the balconies, air conditioning, large plasma televisions, laundry facilities and a kitchen with dishwasher. The Deluxe apartments on this side of the island offer two views – either pool or ocean.

Iririki Resort’s farés or bungalows are situated on the other side of the Island to the apartments. Here you’ll find traditional tropical style furnishings, warm timber flooring and plenty of natural light. They’re romantic, serene and totally in harmony with the island setting, catering only to adults. In opting for one of the farés, you’ll have a choice of waterfront, harbour or garden views. The waterfront farés are literally over the water, while those with garden views provide vistas over the Island’s lush native bush and forest.??Those with harbour views allow you to enjoy the sight of boats and yachts bobbing below and keep an eye on all the water sports.

For those truly wanting to relax and unwind, the fully serviced spa is the place to head for, or perhaps just head for one of the island pools and soak up the sun. Spa Frangipani offers head to toe treatments, catering to both men and women – facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. They also take care of hair styling and make-up if you feel the need to glam up a little.

The more active will thrive on the facilities which range from tennis courts and gymnasium, to kayaking, snorkelling, sailing and much more. In fact, there’s an abundance of water sports activities on offer, as well as joy flights.

If holidays to you mean not cooking, don’t panic. There are four different restaurants, cafés and bars on Iririki Island offering a variety of cuisines. The renowned Mitchener’s Restaurant is incredibly romantic and offers sumptuous gourmet cuisine, while Watermark Restaurant offers a variety of meals in a more relaxed atmosphere. Bali Hai Café & Bar is poolside and serves deliciously long, tall, cool cocktails and the Sunset Café & Bar is perfect for family meals. All four eateries provide room service 24/7 and private candlelit dinners on your balcony will make special occasions just that touch more special.

Iririki Island Resort & Spa offers an incomparable level of service in Vanuatu. White sandy beaches, lush native bush, jewel-like sparkling waters and fabulous accommodation options make this an island in the sun worth making time to visit. You’ll thank yourself long afterwards.

??Peter Frampton – Baby I Love Your Way (shortened)
Shadows grow so long before my eyes
and they’re moving across the page
suddenly the day turns into night,
far away from the city
moon appears to shine and light the sky
with the help of some fireflies
I wonder how they have the power to shine, shine, shine
I can see them under the pine
I can see the sunset in your eyes,
brown and grey and blue besides
Clouds are stalking islands in the sun
I wish I could buy one out of season
But don’t hesitate,
‘cause your love won’t wait
Ooh baby I love your way (everyday)
Wanna tell you I love your way
Wanna be with you night and day
