Renaissance Hotel SeaWorld

Service with a smile

If there is one thing the Americans do well it is service. Sure, you are expected to tip, but good service is still good service.

If I was to attempt to recall all the bars I have sat in front of in all my travels I don’t think I could remember many of the names of the bartenders who worked behind them. I can’t say the same for the Renaissance Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Service with a smile would be an understatement. “That’s our job,” full time barman, Britt, tells me. “People want to feel comfortable – almost at home really.”

Britt, along with his two bartending colleagues, Mike 1 and Mike 2, made the evenings relaxing and enjoyable in comfortable surroundings and even took the time to explain, in simple terms, how American Football worked. However, I declined their offer to reciprocate and explain cricket to them – I said I was only here for 5 days.

Making people feel right at home is what makes people come back to a property again and again.

Like a good restaurant, the staff are the crux of any great hotel and the staff here are superb – be it front desk, main office, cleaning, food and beverage. The Renaissance Orlando SeaWorld rekindled my love of top quality hotels.

The property is literally across the carpark from SeaWorld Orlando, adjacent to Aquatica and Discovery Cove and minutes from the area’s finest shopping and restaurants. It is also close to Orlando’s golf courses (just five minutes sees you at 4 of them), popular area attractions, including Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando and it is only a short drive to the Orlando area beaches. You have to admit, life looks pretty darn good when you’re standing at the gateway to all that Orlando has to offer.

The Renaissance Orlando consists of 716 rooms and 65 suites on 10 floors. The entire accommodation area is like a hollowed out lego block. The 10 floors encase the central atrium area which reaches the full height to an enclosed, see through roof canopy.

Three bars and a high quality restaurant (Tradewinds) will ensure that you are well sated at any time of the day or night. There is even a full Starbucks inside the atrium. Make sure you join Mike 2 at Mist Sushi and Spirits Bar. Like the name suggests they serve sushi…but not just any sushi – the best sushi you will ever “endure”.

Behind the bar 16 large TVs blend together to give you a visual orgasm of colour and underwater life. I found myself constantly looking at the screens in amazement. The happy hour cocktails also go down a treat.

Cheers!
